The best of writing, photography, art, and argument – on everything from film to foreign policy.

“Ever dreamed of subscribing to a cultural magazine that doesn’t seem to be eating out of the hand of half a dozen media magnates? Something pluricultural and unassuming but nonetheless covering everything worth seeing, reading, doing or listening to for a season? Well, it exists, and in Canada to boot!”

“There is no on-line version or web site, which either makes John a dinosaur or a man of character. (I opt for the second, since the editorial team occasionally has a kind word for me.)”

John Howe — Canadian artist and co-conceptual designer on all three “The Lord of the Rings” motion pictures.

* Editor’s Note: The age of the dinosaurs has at last come to an end — with the arrival of this website!

* Robin Hood Panto opensRobin Hood Panto opens

Robin Hood: The Panto -- The stage musical opens on Friday, November 17, 2017 and closes Saturday, December 23, 2017. Call for days and times (a mix of matinee and evening times). Artistic Director Antonio Sarmiento turns the classic tale of Robin Hood on it’s ear with hilarious “Family” and “Naughty” versions. Featuring an all-Canadian professional cast starring SWEENEY MACARTHUR and JAY T SCHRAMEK, with a live band and a stellar ensemble showcasing incredible dance moves and popular songs. We (very loosely) follow the British tradition of pantomime theater which retells well-loved children’s stories or fairy tales -- but with a lot of added silliness. You'll love the music, visual effects, and audience interaction. Family Version: Perfect for all ages, with humor that kids and adults alike can enjoy. Naughty Version: for a mature audience (ages 16+). WARNING: The humor will be silly and raunchy, to say the least. There will be sexy attire -- no nudity but you may see a “moon.” Harsh language and dirty props. Visit our beautiful atmospheric theater, which will transport to you a Renaissance-era courtyard. Capitol Theatre, 20 Queen St., Port Hope, Ontario. Call (905) 885-1071 or 1-800-434-5092. http://capitoltheatre.com/
