Decoding the History and Future of Cryptanalysis: From intelligence experts in World War II, to fictional secret agents like James Bond, to ‘cryptocurrency’ such as Bitcoin, cryptography and cryptanalysis combine to fascinate contemporary culture. On Friday, March 2, 2018 at 7 pm, UOIT welcomes two leading international experts to unlock the mysteries behind the use of codes and ciphers to protect secrets: Peter Berg, Professor of Mathematics & Physics and Chair of the Dept of. Science, U. of Alberta (formerly with UOIT’s Faculty of Science) and Richard Brisson, leading cryptology expert and retired analyst with the federal Communications Security Establishment, They will explore the history and workings of the "Enigma Cipher Machine," an electrical device used by Germany’s military before and during World War II. At the Regent Theater, 50 King St. E. (east of Simcoe St.), Oshawa. Downtown parking (street and lots) is free after 6 pm). The evening will include audience participation in crowd-based cryptocurrency mining.
